- ~I have an AT&T dataport express v.34(28.8) internal modem. Iam running
- ~Win95 on a P133 PC. Very frequently I am disconnected from my ISP, the modem
- ~log says "Remote Modem hung up,NO CARRIER". My ISP is telling me my modem is
- ~faulty. This may be possible, but I cant see my PC supplier replacing and
- ~other wise perfectly working modem from this diagnosis.
- ~Can any one suggest how I prove either way where this problem originates???
- ~COuld it just be noise on the phone line??
- ~Thanks for any help.

- An 'off the wall guess'. Does either you or your ISP have some type of
- 'Disconnect if no Activity' timer switch set. My ISP has a 10 minute
- 'dead-mans switch'. I've never been inactive for 10 minutes but if I did
- nothing for that length of time I would be summarily disconnected. If you
- have a time log see if there is any correlation between doing nothing
- on-line and your disconnects. There have been times where I've had no
- activity for 3 or 4 minutes while downloading large files and I always get
- nervous with anticipation wondering if things will start up before I get
- disconnected.
